The short answer

Outbound calling at volume is a scheduling and compliance problem. Campaigns dial your list within permitted calling windows, apply retry rules to unanswered numbers, hold the conversation, and write a structured outcome for every attempt. Interested contacts transfer live to your team. Because outcomes are structured rather than free-text, you can measure the campaign instead of estimating it.

How do retry rules work?

You set how many attempts a number gets, how far apart, and at what times of day. Most connects come from varying the time of day rather than from raw attempt count, so spreading retries across the permitted window usually beats stacking them. Every attempt is logged whether or not it connected.

What is a structured outcome?

A defined field per call — interested, not interested, wrong number, callback requested, transferred, no answer — plus any data captured in the conversation. Free-text notes cannot be counted; structured outcomes can, which is what makes a campaign measurable and a list re-targetable.

What stops a campaign calling someone it should not?

Do-not-call checks run before dialling and calling windows are enforced by the platform rather than by the schedule you intended to set. Consent state is recorded per contact. These are platform controls precisely so that a misconfigured campaign fails safe.

Frequently asked questions

How many calls can run at once?
Concurrency is configurable per account. The practical limit is usually not the platform but your transfer capacity — there is no benefit to generating more live transfers than your team can answer, and callers who are transferred into a queue have a worse experience than those the agent books a callback for.
Can outbound and inbound run on the same number?
Yes. Inbound and outbound run on the same platform at the same per-minute rate, so a contact who calls back the number that rang them reaches an agent rather than a dead line.

Scope, limitations, and sources

This page describes platform capability, not guaranteed outcomes. Results depend on your list quality, script, calling hours, and the regulations that apply to your industry and jurisdiction. Nothing here is legal advice: you remain the caller of record and are responsible for confirming that your campaign complies with the rules in each region you call.
